Diarrhea is one of the most common causes for thousands of deaths in every year in developing countries and mainly affects children and infants. It has been reported that the leaf of Streblus asper is used as an antidiarrheal agent and traditionally used for anti-diarrheal effects like dysentery and diarrhea. The present study aims to prove the anti-diarrheal activities of ethanolic extract of leaves of Streblus asper in animal models. The ethanolic leaf extract of Streblus asper was evaluated for its activity against castor oil-induced diarrhea, enteropooling, and gastrointestinal motility in swiss albino rats. In castor oil-induced diarrhea model, ethanolic extract of Streblus asper at the doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg produced statistically significant. The recent study indicates that EESA possesses anti-diarrheal property. The findings represent a rational explanation for its use in traditional medicine for the management of diarrhea.
