1 STUDY OF DRESS PERCENTAGE AND RELATIVE WEIGHTS
OF CARCASS PARTS IN VARIOUS AGES OF JAPANESE QUAIL

Fadil ABSTRACT This study was conducted in Animal Resources Dept. – College of Agriculture – University of Diyala during the period 1 Feb. to 8 April 2013 , aimed to determine dress percentage , some relative weight of carcass parts( include breast , thigh and back ) , some vital organs( heart , liver ) at various ages in Japanese quail in Iraq. The study use 100 one day old chicks , the study slaughtered random sample of them consist of 70 birds , as 20 , 20 , 15 , 15 birds in 4 , 6 , 8 , 10 week of age respectively , and the measurements taken in each age and the correlation coefficients were calculated among the various measurements . The results indicated that, the age has highly significant effect in body weight , carcass weight , intestine length , also there was significant effect of age in thigh weight . The sex has significant effect in body weight , dress percentage , intestine length , liver weight , back weight , there were highly significant effect of the interaction between age and sex in body weight and carcass weight , while there was significant effect of this interaction in relative weight of liver. There were highly significant correlation coefficients among all measurements included in the study. Key words: Japanese quail , dress percentage , carcass parts , vital organs . 2 EVALUATION OF PRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF JAPANESE
QUAIL IN SUMMER OF IRAQ . , K. H. Hassan ABSTRACT This study was conducted to determine the productive performance of Japanese quail during summer season in Iraq along the period 10 July 2011 to 25 Sept. 2011 . The flock consist of 60 one day old chicks and reared in three boxes with dimensions 50* 50* 100 Cm., the measurements included the following traits : Live body weight , gain body weight , Uniformity , Age at sexual maturity , Egg weight , Shell weight , Shell thickness , Egg shape index , Chick weight / Egg weight percentage and calculated correlation coefficients and regression coefficients between some traits of the study . The results inducted that , the mean chick weight and its uniformity were 7.24 g and 56.25 % respectively . The egg weight , shell weight , shell thickness , shape index , chick weight / egg weight , age at sexual maturity were 9.54 g , 1.23 g , 0.25 mm , 79.19 % , 75.89 % , 40.63 day , there were highly significant correlation coefficients between shell weight and each of shell thickness and shape index ( 0.45 and – 0.68 respectively ) , also there were significant regression coefficients between chick weight and each of egg weight and shape index ( 0.88 and – 0.45 respectively ) .
