1 DISTRIBUTION OF SOME MOLDS IN THE ATMOSPHERIC AIR OF EL-BEIDA CITY, LIBYA, El-Gali Z. Ibrahim and Abdullrahman E. Mohamed
Airborne fungi play an important role in causing allergy and infection in susceptible people. Airborne fungi composition in mountain city of El-Beida, Libya was studied using Open Petri Dish sampler during the period from April 2013 to March 2014. The plate exposure to spores inside home is an important factor of sensitization. The aim of this study was to determine the distribution and prevalence of species of Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Fusarium and Penicillium inside and outside of the homes and to evaluate monthly variations. A total of 3336 indoor and 4257 outdoor exposed plates were cultured, leading to isolation of 10806 colonies of fungi. 70.3% of total colonies belonged to the five genera considered. The Atmospheric conditions are factors that affect the development of fungi. The maximum number of colony was found in June, November 2013 and March 2014. This study is of a potential interest as little reported research on the indoor/outdoor fungal air quality from El-Beida, Libya.
